DESCRIPTIONDon’t miss the opportunity to witness An unique fusion of ARCHITECTURE, DANCE and MUSIC!
Join Christopher Janney, as he brings his“Exploring the Hidden Music” to Boston University’s Dance Theater on FRIDAY, JUNE 8, 8PM.
This June concert will continue JANNEY’S investigations into “PHYSICAL MUSIC” with fellow explorers STAN STRICKLAND(saxophone, flute, vocals), JOSH ROSEN(piano, composition), JERRY LEAKE(North Indian tabla, vibraphone, percussion), ALICIA ORTIZ (vocals), andNEDELKA PRESCOD (vocals), with special guest JON HAZILLA. Among the works to be presented will be “BUBBLE BEBOP” for tabla and snare with brushes, some of his latest sculptures “SOUND IS AN INVISIBLE COLOR”, and a new version of his “HEARTBEAT” piece with choreographer/dancer JAMIE BREGE.
Janney originally created “HeartBeat” forMIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV. Using a wireless heart monitor affixed to the dancer’s body, Janney’s creation turns the performer’s heartbeat into the "drummer", driving the musicians to an usual beat.
If you’re interested in the intersection of music, light, and the physical world, you won’t want to miss this provocative event.
VIP tickets include the performance and an intimate after-show reception. VIP pass-holders will have exclusive access to the performers during a post-performance meet and greet.

Christopher Janney was trained as an architect (Princeton University , B.A. Architecture, 1973, magna cum laude/ MIT -M.S. Environmental Art, 1978) and a jazz musician (private studies, 1963-1976, Dalcroze School, 1974-75). Winner of the Edison Award from General Electric and the Kepes Prize from MIT, Janney has created numerous permanent interactive sound/light installations and performances combining architecture and music. With his “Urban Musical Instruments” series, he attempts to make architecture more "spontaneous" (Harmonic Runway, Miami Airport; REACH:NY, 34th St. subway, New York.) Through his “Physical Music” series, he explores making music physical and visual (HeartBeat:mb with S. Rudner, M. Baryshnikov).

He has performed with the Boston Pops, the Village People, Aretha Franklin, and jazz greats, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, Shirley Scott and Marlena Shaw, and opened for Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Natalie Cole and The Bare Naked Ladies.
